The word hoax is increasingly used for all kinds of spoofs or fake rumours on the internet, in the form of ordinary emails or chain letters, which people pass on in all good faith.

There are now websites like Hoaxbuster or Hoaxkiller that identify all the hoaxes currently doing the rounds of the internet, so do act like a responsible citizen and report any hoaxes you come across.
