By extension, the word has now come to be used for those who commit piracy on the web. - Some hackers have made very good careers out of it, despite having been caught for internet piracy. Several companies have signed up these criminals to improve the protection of their own websites or internal servers, or disarm attempts by other hackers in the pay of the competition. The moral is that it’s always good to have a hacker about the place; you never know when you might need one.
