ADSL

Updated : Tuesday 2 February 2010

Broadband technology that allows data such as messages, photos, videos etc. to be sent at high speed over the internet via a telephone connection.

  • In the early days, ADSL was the fast track to internet access, though it often broke down and the “hotline” helpline services were anything but speedy. That said, the advent of fibre optics, which is up to 20 times faster, has made ADSL look like old technology. In any event, ADSL represents the basic minimum standard for internet, and if you don’t have ADSL there’s no point reading this dictionary.
